An Enterprise with an Uncertain Ending

PROCHÁZKOVÁ ANDREA

A book-length interview between journalist Andrea Procházková (1995) and Petr Pithart (1941), a former politician and university lecturer, about our country's path to freedom and, above all, about what has happened in the world of politics and society from 1989 to the present. What did the Velvet Revolution look like behind the scenes? What went well in the thirty years of post-Soviet development, and what went wrong? What influence do Czech presidents have on society? And why do our worlds suddenly not meet? These and other questions are discussed by two generations more than fifty years apart. In general, the book is intended to serve as a guide at a time when one event succeeds another at an ever faster pace, yet some political and social phenomena still remain. Thanks to Pithart's personal story, the narrative, spread over thirteen “evenings”, not only focuses on key political events and figures but naturally intertwines with his life and experiences. Moreover, the intergenerational dialogue allows (not only) young people to look behind the scenes of Czech politics and its relatively recent history, which is still with us today.
