Oldřich Blažíček

BLAŽÍČKOVÁ HOROVÁ NADĚŽDA, HAVLOVÁ ELIŠKA

Czech painter Oldřich Blažíček (1887 – 1953) belonged to the generation of artists whose importance grew with the birth of the First Czechoslovak Republic and established themselves as the new national and cultural elite enthusiastic about the newly created state. Blažíček was a painter of the plein air, painting landscapes in all seasons, yet frequently focusing on winter and early spring. His highly developed ability to capture the architecture of interiors earned him the position of a professor of drawing and painting at the Czech Technical University, Prague. The monograph includes unpublished written documentation and photographs from Blažíček’s inheritance and shows him as an artist, teacher and public persona; it discusses Blažíček’s exhibitions, his activities in various societies as well as his social and family life, reflecting the contemporary atmosphere. The monograph is appended by an exhaustive catalogue of Blažíček’s work.
