Stolen Youth

LEIKERT JOZEF

How the students who took part in the demonstration on 17 November 1939 suffered in Sachsenhausen concentration camp The book is the result of research into the events of 17 November 1939, when, after demonstrations of the resistance of the Czech people against the German occupation of Bohemia and Moravia connected with the funeral of Jan Opletal, 1200 Czech university students were carried off to Sachsenhausen concentration camp. Using the method of oral history – testimonies of eyewitnesses traced both in the Czech Republic and abroad – the author has been able to reconstruct in detail the life of the former students in the concentration camp, where they spent several years. The author describes in detail the practices of the Germans aimed at liquidating the intelligentsia of the Czech nation. He concentrates on the feelings of the students, and their selfless behaviour and courageous action in inhuman conditions.
