A Guide to Uprising Prague

ŠMEJKAL PAVEL

In 2025, we commemorate the 80th anniversary of the end of World War II and the Prague Uprising that accompanied it. From 5 to 9 May 1945, civilians, many of whom had no formal military training, took up arms against the superior numbers of well-armed and well-trained German troops. To this day, plaques and small monuments mark the places where those defending their city lost their lives. This guide takes readers to the key sites of battles and other events closely linked to the preparation and course of the uprising in the Czech capital. In addition to the stories of resistance fighters themselves, it also recalls the fates of those who happened to be in the wrong place at the wrong time – the victims of the bombing of Prague or the rampage of the SS. The book aims to record as much information as possible about individual fighters who, even eighty years later, deserve our immense respect and admiration.
