An Unofficial Drama of Communist Totalitarianism

This book presents a selection of Czech dramas that were written between 1948 and 1989 as unofficial dramas and survived either in manuscript, were published in samizdat or in exile. The anthology does not, however, present the works of well-known playwrights, mostly representatives of the political opposition of the time, as these are already available to readers, but attempts to make available a lesser-known area of this literature. Therefore, plays for the theatre or radio that have remained virtually unknown to the public have been selected for the book. The publication is introduced by a scholarly study of unofficial drama in the period.
